Gary's South Gleason Park Golf Range is back open after a $173,000 renovation that added cashless ball dispensing, GPS distance tracking and upgraded security to the facility.
Mayor Eddie Melton celebrated the reopening with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, the City of Gary announced on its Facebook page. The renovation brings several technology upgrades to the range, which stretches more than 300 yards.
Ball dispensing is now fully automated and cashless. Golfers can use the AccuRange GPS mobile app while they practice. The app is a distance-measurement tool designed to give golfers accurate yardage readings on the range, according to its developer.
The range is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The last bucket is sold at 5 p.m.
Buckets are priced at three tiers:
- Small (35 balls): $5
- Medium (70 balls): $9
- Large (105 balls): $13
Security at the facility was also upgraded as part of the renovation, according to the city's announcement.
The city said a new putting green is planned for spring 2027.
